Amsterdam Prepares for Queen's Day
posted on Mar 2, 2014

The city of Amsterdam is currently gearing up for its annual Queen's Day, which takes place every year on April 30th in celebration of the Dutch monarch Queen Beatrix.
However, those staying in Amsterdam hotels this year can look forward to an extra special event, as Prince Willem-Alexander is set to take over the throne, with the royal inauguration taking place on Queen's Day itself.
Thousands of revellers will be lining the streets of the Dutch capital once again for the celebration, although the party is sure to be bigger than ever this year.
Those with an interest in the history of the country's monarchy can learn more by visiting the 15th century Niewe Kirk - which has provided the setting for every royal inauguration since the Orange-Nassau family first ascended to the throne in 1813 - where a special exhibition about past kings and queens will be taking place from May 11th to August 18th.
